I started making paper cutting art Chigiri-e.
I suddenly started making Chigiri-e. I hadn't done it since elementary school, but I wanted to make use of the many origami papers my mother gave me. I sketched out a rough draft on a black cardboard, then matched the colors of the origami papers to confirm the color scheme. From there, I diligently tore and pasted the origami papers onto the cardboard.

As I continued with Chigiri-e using origami paper, I started to feel a desire to use the Japanese paper I had just a little of. Indeed, Japanese paper is completely different from regular paper. Not only the feel when touched, but also the strength when tearing, and the three-dimensionality when pasted on the cardboard, were wonderful. I only had a small amount of Japanese paper, so I used it partially, but that part alone added a sense of luxury (laughs).

I want to create a lovely Chigiri-e.

When I did a bit of research on Chigiri-e, I found out that there are even vocational schools dedicated to it. It seems that using Japanese paper is the mainstream method for creating Chigiri-e, and many of the works I saw showcased a gentle texture that highlighted the beauty of Japanese paper. I also hope to create a wonderful piece someday! I will let you know when that happens.
